Douglas Fairbanks was not only the husband of Mary Pickford, but most of all the original swashbuckler of Hollywood. He made the genre famous with his athletic stunts, his boundless energy and his laughter. He also helped set up the Academy of Motion Arts and Sciences, gave out the first Oscars and founded the Motion Picture Fund. He truly was an impressive man with an interesting life.
