Constance Bennett was one of the highest-paid actresses of 1930 Hollywood. She also was part of a long line of thespians and entertainers and acting was a family affair. Nevertheless, she never was regarded as a superior actress, and Ringold wrote that she “wore clothes better than she acted”.
